Background

BrightonBeat.com features the music careers of local rock musicians of the sixties and the great bands they played in.  From the South coast dance halls where they first performed, to Europe’s greatest rock and R&B clubs of the time, touring and performing alongside many world famous stars of pop music’s greatest era.

The Sapphires, The Giants, The T-Bones and Shelley.

Brighton’s first professional rock musicians came from these bands; the first local rock musicians to record, tour nationally and internationally and the first to broadcast on radio and TV.

Touring and performing across Europe with many world famous acts between 1963 and 1969: The Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Who, The Small Faces, The Yardbirds, The Searchers, The Hollies, Howlin' Wolf, The Swinging Blue Jeans, The Pretty Things, The Kinks, The Animals, Sonny Boy Williamson and many, many more.

The musicians and singers of the Sapphires, the Giants, the T-Bones and Shelley took the "BrightonBeat" from the legendary Starlight Rooms of Brighton to the most famous music venues of the decade: The Cavern Club in Liverpool, birthplace of The Beatles, The Star-Club, Hamburg, the most famous rock club of the sixties, and The Marquee Club, London, home of British R&B and Blues music.
