The Regent Ballroom

One of the most memorable occurrences at The Regent was a mid-week personal appearance in 1963 by sixties' pop star Heinz, an ex-member of The Tornados who had had a number one hit with the instrumental "Telstar", the biggest selling single of all time.

Heinz was making a personal appearance to promote his first single and hit "Just Like Eddy", produced by the infamous Joe Meek.

He was so nervous he wouldn't come out of his dressing room and had to be coaxed out.  His performance was mimed to the record playing over the Regent PA as he stood on top of a table on top of a piano in the middle of the dance floor (no wonder he was nervous).  At the end of the record he couldn't get down, so they just repeated the record and he mimed it again!
